TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey seniors and disabled residents now have until Oct. 1 to apply for a property tax reimbursement program.
Treasurer Andrew Sidamon-Eristoff said in a statement the state is extending the deadline beyond June 1 to make sure anyone who’s eligible has a chance to apply.
Last year 172,000 seniors and disabled residents received checks averaging $1,200 per recipient. The program is sometimes called the Senior Freeze.
The treasurer says applicants who sent filed their paperwork by June 1 should expect their checks this year by mid-July. He adds that anyone filing after that date will have the application processed as quickly as possible.
