A devoted New York City dog owner has taken his terminally ill pet on a bucket list trip across the country, documenting their adventures to the delight of thousands of Instagram users.

Poh, a 15-year-old mixed-breed dog, was diagnosed recently with several health problems. Owner Thomas Neil Rodriguez said veterinarians concluded the dog will not live much longer.

“I’m unsure of how long. Doctors are unsure,” Mr. Rodriguez told ABC News. “My assumption is that I don’t have very long with him, and that’s what prompted the trips.”

Since March, Mr. Rodriguez, his fiancée, and Poh have driven across the country, ticking off many desirable destinations from their bucket list, ABC reported.

They visited 35 cities and traveled about 12,000 miles, posing in front of many well-known landmarks along the way.

“I initially wanted to get him to the Pacific Ocean,” Mr. Rodriguez said. “He loved it, it was so healing for him. It was like he was 5 years younger. He was walking with a lot of energy.”

“We even stopped by Walter White’s house in New Mexico,” he added. “We went to ‘The Goonies’ house in Oregon. There was some dog parks to go to. In Austin, we went to a great dog park where he actually swam.”

“It was a great trip,” Mr. Rodriguez said. “I got to spend seven weeks with Poh. At first, I did not think he’d make it two weeks, but he did.”

He documented the journey on an Instagram account created just for Poh’s adventures, which has reached nearly 14,000 followers.

“I am super blessed that I have actually gotten to do this,” he said. “People think I take care of Poh, but Poh takes care of me.”
