HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. (AP) - Maryland State Police say a Maryland Transportation Authority employee working along Interstate 95 in Harford County was struck and killed by a van.

It happened about 1 p.m. Thursday on the John F. Kennedy Memorial Highway in Havre de Grace. Troopers say 59-year-old Michael Pearce of Abingdon, a facilities maintenance technician, and his crew were assigned to mow the grass along the highway.

Police say a van driven by 54-year-old Corey Ness of Spring Grove, Pennsylvania, was traveling south on I-95 when it left the road and traveled between the right shoulder and an overpass.

Authorities say the van hit a stopped dump truck and then Pearce.

Troopers say Pearce was pronounced dead at the scene. Ness was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

The crash is under investigation.
