GROTON, Conn. (AP) - U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas E. Perez is set to visit Connecticut to highlight manufacturing job training and discuss paid leave policies.

Perez is scheduled Thursday to join Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy and Rep. Joe Courtney at Electric Boat in Groton. They will meet with business leaders, educators, advocates and government officials about training workers for science, technology, engineering and mathematics jobs in eastern Connecticut.

Perez will tour the Electric Boat shipyard and meet employees training in advanced welding.

Connecticut’s community colleges received federal funding last year to expand a pilot Advanced Manufacturing Program at Asnuntuck Community College in Enfield to other community colleges.

Perez also will meet Rep. Rosa DeLauro, business representatives and others in the New Haven area to discuss paid leave.
