NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - The USS Harry S. Truman has completed five days of sea trials following a six-month maintenance availability.

The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier returned to Naval Station Norfolk on Wednesday.

Sea trails take place so Navy officials can assess the ship’s state of readiness and ensure maintenance work was properly completed.

Among other things, they tested equipment that supports surface operations, flight deck evolutions and damage control readiness.

The Truman is scheduled to go on a deployment later this year.
