BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say they’re increasing police patrols around a county-owned park in Buffalo where vandals have caused an estimated $30,000 in damage in recent weeks.

Erie County officials say construction equipment and supplies were stolen and destroyed Monday night at Black Rock Canal Park. It’s the fourth time vandals have hit the park, located along the Niagara River on Buffalo’s west side.

Other contractors have reported having equipment stolen or ruined while left inside a fenced-off area of the park.

The sheriff’s office says it will be adding patrols around the park and is asking the public to contact police if they notice anything suspicious.

The park has been closed since construction crews started a second phase of improvements last month. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the summer.
