BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A federal judge has sentenced a former sales manager at Serra Nissan in Birmingham to two-and-a-half years in prison for his role in a scheme at the car dealership to falsify auto loan documents.
A press release states a judge sentenced 49-year-old Abdul Islam Mughal Thursday on two counts of fraud. Authorities say while he was the dealership’s general sales manager, there was a scheme that if a customer did not qualify for a car loan, employees were to falsify information, ensuring the customer was funded.
Mughal pleaded guilty in July 2014 to one count of conspiring with others to falsify loan documents and one count of bank fraud for submitting falsified loan documents to financial institutions.
Mughal must report to prison July 28.
