FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - Fort Detrick is getting a new garrison commander.
The Army installation is saying goodbye to Col. Steven Middlecamp and welcoming Col. Robert O’Brien at a change-of-command ceremony Friday.
Middlecamp has served for two years as in the position, which is similar to that of a small-town mayor. A garrison commander oversees an installation’s budget and fiscal management, personnel management, and public relations.
O’Brien is a U.S. Military Academy graduate, commissioned in 1992. He most recently served as chief of operations for the I Corps at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state.
