DETROIT (AP) - A big fundraiser is taking place for the Belle Isle Conservancy in conjunction with this weekend’s Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix.

The 2015 PwC Grand Prixmiere takes place Friday night at the island park, overlooking the James Scott Memorial Fountain and the Detroit skyline.

The sold-out fundraiser is presented by Chevrolet and more than 500 guests are expected. The event dubbed “Ladies and Gentlemen, Start Your Engines!” is chaired by Paula and Steve Kiefer, vice president of Global Purchasing and Supply Chain for General Motors.

The nonprofit Belle Isle Conservancy is dedicated to preserving and improving Belle Isle. The state assumed management of the park from Detroit last year.
