NAMPA, Idaho (AP) - Police in the southwest Idaho community of Nampa say they were pursuing a man sought on a state Corrections Department parole violation warrant Thursday night when the man ran into a stranger’s home.

KTVB-TV reports (https://is.gd/0Y30qC) the people who were inside that home were able to get out safely.

Police were negotiating with the 36-year-old man late Thursday night.

Police Chief Craig Kingsbury says police initially spotted the man in a car and began a short chase. They suspended that chase when conditions became too dangerous.

The chief says officers found the vehicle abandoned a short time later, then saw the man flee on foot and run into the house.
