WEST MONROE, La. (AP) - The West Monroe floodwall will bear a mile-long mural of art by about 200 schoolchildren.
Brooke Foy tells The News-Star (https://tnsne.ws/1KEKX4R ) that her initiative, Arrow Public Art, has about 1,000 drawings to choose from. She says about 200 will be painted on the floodwall to create what she calls a linear narrative.
Foy is a graduate of West Monroe High School and an art instructor at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. She says she got the idea after returning to West Monroe and spending months driving by the floodwall.
Foy said West Monroe Mayor Dave Norris is excited by the project and the Tensas Basin Levee District has approved the mural.
She says artists from local universities, community members and the children will paint the mural during the summer.
