SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Police in Maine say a South Portland man faces charges after he hit a telephone pole while driving under the influence of alcohol with a child in the car.

The Sun Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1AylTqi ) that authorities say a car driven by Momenjan Abullayof struck the pole in Willard Square at about 8 p.m. Saturday.

When police arrived, they say Abullayof and his 7-year-old child were standing outside the vehicle.

Authorities say the child was not injured. Police charged the father with operating under the influence and endangering the welfare of a child.

He was taken to the Cumberland County Jail. It was not immediately known if he has a lawyer.
