PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Haile Mengesha of New York and Tigist Jabore of Silver Springs, Maryland were the winners of the 10-mile Broad Street Run in Philadelphia on Sunday.
Twenty-nine-year-old Mengesha crossed the finish line with an unofficial time of 47 minutes, 54 seconds, averaging a 4:47 minute per mile pace. He finished less than a minute ahead of 31-year-old Jaouad El Jazouli of Roxborough.
Twenty-one-year-old Jabore finished with a time of 53 minutes, 35 seconds and was 29th overall while averaging a 5:21 minute mile. She finished about five seconds ahead of another Silver Spring runner, 28-year-old Askale Merachi.
Forty-seven-year-old Tony Nogueira of Glen Ridge, New Jersey won the wheelchair competition in 38 minutes, 2 seconds.
More than 40,000 runners participated in the annual springtime event.
