NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A pediatrics clinic and a general care clinic in eastern New Orleans are joining in a new $2.3 million building with a goal of serving communities hurt by the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

Project coordinator Julie Hoang tells New Orleans CityBusiness (https://bit.ly/1zpkTcW ) that many people in the area lost shrimp or fishing jobs after the spill.

Hoang says the New Orleans East Louisiana Community Health Center offers primary care, OB/GYN, mental health and behavioral services and a nutritionist, and can treat 8,000 patients. It has Vietnamese and Spanish interpreters.

More than $1.2 million for the clinic came from a $105 million, four-state program created as part of the medical class action settlement with BP PLC and others. The rest is from community block development grants.
