LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. (AP) - The operator of a transit service for Lake Havasu City’s low-income residents is pulling the company out of its contract.
The Today’s News-Herald reported (https://bit.ly/1zGjqiw) Saturday that the owner of The Shuttle sent a letter to the city requesting a cancellation of service just four weeks after it launched.
The Shuttle is a private company that was contracted through the city to offer cheap, door-to-door service for low-income riders who had special vouchers.
Owner Harlan Stilwell says the shuttle service wasn’t earning enough revenue to cover its costs, including a $2 million insurance policy required by the city.
City officials will meet this week about other options.
The Shuttle was used by eligible riders for getting to work, medical appointments and other necessities.
