ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - An Albuquerque maintenance man has been accused of sexual assaulting a 75-year-old woman he was working for two months ago.

Albuquerque police say an arrest warrant charges 56-year-old Ernie Casias with aggravated criminal sexual penetration, attempt to commit murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and tampering with evidence.

Officers went to the woman’s home March 7 for a welfare check.

They reported finding the victim unresponsive and barely breathing in her bedroom. Police saw blood in the bedrooms, hallway and bathrooms.

Investigators tell KOB-TV it took more than a month for the victim to recover enough to identify Casias as a possible suspect from a photo lineup.

They say robbery may have been the motive as the woman says she gave about $35,000 to Casias for a business deal.
