DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - Another buyer is being sought to rehabilitate a historic home near Davenport Central High School, because the first deal fell through.
The Quad-City Times reports (https://bit.ly/1Pi7tRH ) that the vacant brick home was donated by Wells Fargo Bank to a nonprofit organization, Hilltop Campus Village. The first buyer selected by the organization couldn’t secure financing, so the home awaits another so it can be restored.
Scott Tunnicliff is director of Hilltop Campus Village, and he says the brick house could be used for residential or commercial purposes or perhaps both.
It’s uncertain when the house was built, but the newspaper reports that a George Smiley lived there with his wife, Sarah, in 1868.
