PHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona Department of Public Safety has held its annual memorial for officers who have died in the line of duty at a ceremony attended by Gov. Doug Ducey.
The 29 officers who have been killed on the job since 1958 were honored Monday morning. Ducey says the state honors the fallen and grieves with their families. He told gathered DPS officers that every call is a risk and they answer each one courageously.
The ceremony was held at DPS headquarters in Phoenix, where a memorial statute honors the fallen.
New DPS Director Col. Frank Milstead says he’s honored to wear the badge and for the work of law enforcement officers he commands.
He also said the department is committed to providing more support for the families of the fallen.
