LISLE, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a 38-year-old man has died during an autocross race at a dirt track on New York’s Southern Tier.

Troopers say Michael Smith of Oswego lost control of his 2000 Chevy Blazer at Broome Tioga Raceway in the Town of Lisle and SUV rolled over, coming to rest on the driver’s side.

Thirty-five-year-old Mitchel Quail of Richfield was racing close behind in his 1997 Toyota Camry and unable to avoid a collision Sunday afternoon.

Smith suffered a head injury when the vehicles collided. He was transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital, where he died.

An autopsy is pending and state police are still investigating.
