BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A Buffalo-based start-up electronic tablet manufacturer is expected to accelerate expansion plans following a multimillion-dollar investment by businessman B. Thomas Golisano.

Bak USA on Monday announced that Golisano will become a partner in the company. Golisano is the founder of Paychex Inc. and a former owner of the Buffalo Sabres.

He says he won’t manage the company but will lend strategic assistance as Bak increases its workforce to 100 within the next year, and up to 267 in the future.

Bak, which opened in December, assembles WIFI and 3G Bak Board tablet PCs for educational, not-for-profit, and governmental organizations around the world.

It’s part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Start-Up New York program, which allows new businesses that work with state universities and colleges to operate tax-free for 10 years.
