NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - A Newport News fire official says crews are working to contain a spill in the harbor.
Battalion chief Stephen C. Pincus says an adjacent business reported a potential oil spill around 11:12 a.m. Monday. Responders found a dense black film on the water.
Pincus says in a news release that the substance, the amount and the spill’s source haven’t been determined.
The fire department’s Hazardous Materials Team and Marine Incident Response Team are deploying booms to contain the spill.
