MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Officials say fire warnings for much of the Northeast are scheduled to expire, but the fire danger still remains.
The red flag warnings for much of the Northeast are scheduled to expire Monday evening and small amounts of rain are forecast overnight in some areas. But any rain will provide little relief.
The National Weather Service says almost a dozen fires were reported in Vermont Monday and a number of structures were damaged.
Tess Greaves, the fire weather coordinator for the Vermont Department of Forest Parks and Recreation, says the dry conditions will last until there has been substantial rain or the vegetation turns green. No significant rain is in the forecast.
In Vermont, fires were reported Monday from Brattleboro to Charlotte, including fires in Woodford, Brookline, Brandon and Rutland.
