OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma transportation officials have declared an emergency and called for repairs after significant structural damage to an Oklahoma City bridge was found during a routine maintenance project.
The Oklahoman (https://bit.ly/1GKQ9Au ) reports the Oklahoma Transportation Commission on Monday ordered the solicitation of bids to repair the Belle Isle Bridges on Interstate 44 after structural damage to more than half of the bridges’ 95 piers was discovered.
Executive Director Mike Patterson says repairs needed to restore the structural integrity of the bridge are expected to cost more than $7 million. He says it’s unclear how long repairs will take but that the city will offer major incentives for an early completion.
Transportation officials earlier closed lanes and ramps and have banned oversize and overweight vehicles.
