PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A for-profit online college will refund a Portland student’s tuition after the Oregon Justice Department investigated the student’s inability to transfer the school’s credits.
The Oregonian reports (https://bit.ly/1AACXM8 ) Malcolm Strand will get $1,900 from Penn Foster College. The agreement stems from a consumer complaint Strand filed in 2013, accusing the college of false advertising.
Strand says when he tried to transfer his Penn Foster credits to Portland Community College, the college did not accept the credits.
That’s because Penn Foster was not regionally accredited - despite claims on its website.
Dara Warn, a Penn Foster College senior vice president, said the settlement agreement does not represent an admission of wrongdoing, but the school would change its advertising nationwide.
Penn Foster has about 150,000 students, including up to 800 in Oregon.
