HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) - The U.S. Forest Service plans to burn more than 5,000 acres near Reddish Knob in the George Washington National Forest.
The prescribed burn will be conducted this month west of Reddish Knob in Rockingham, Highland and Augusta counties in Virginia and in Pendleton County in West Virginia.
The Forest Service says in a news release that 5,460 acres will be burned over a three-day period.
Prescribed burns are conducted to create open areas where grasses, plants and wildflowers can grow and provide food and cover for wildlife.
