HAVRE, Mont. (AP) - Montana State University-Northern’s interim chancellor is being recommended to fill the job on a permanent basis.
Greg Kegel was named interim chancellor in August 2014, after James Limbaugh resigned. Residents had begun circulating a petition calling for Limbaugh’s ouster amid tumult, including the apparent forced resignation of football coach Mark Samson.
Kegel has worked at Northern since 1982 and was named dean of the College of Technical Services since 2001. Since being appointed interim chancellor, he has helped raise more than $4 million to build a new automotive and diesel technology building.
Kegel says he’s humbled and honored to be asked to lead Northern.
MSU President Waded Cruzado says students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members showed incredible support for Kegel. His appointment must be approved by the state Board of Regents later this month.
