Harrison Co. residents collect 300,000 pounds of waste

GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi Power has hosted its 20th annual Bring It! Hazardous Waste Collection Day for Harrison County residents.

Michael Metz, Plant Watson compliance specialist and program coordinator, says Saturday’s event was a smashing success.

Metz tells The Sun Herald (https://bit.ly/1dHpnBX) hundreds of thousands of pounds of household hazardous waste was collected. It will be properly disposed of and will not make its way into local waterways.

At the collection site, 795 cars dropped off:

-1,600 tires

-220,000 pounds of paint

-80,000 pounds of electronic scrap.
