THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - An independent-living facility in Thibodaux for people age 55 and older, the first of its kind in the area, will open in the fall.

Administrator Ann Thibodaux tells The Daily Comet (https://bit.ly/1GKGqKq) board members of St. Joseph Manor, which will own and operate the adjacent housing facility called Cardinal Place, wanted to expand their services.

The three-story building will have 23 apartments and a community room. There will be an elevator, a balcony in each unit and covered parking.

Board Chairman Jerald Block says the apartments will be one-bedroom, two-bedroom and one-bedroom with study.

If the first phase is successful, Thibodaux says, phase two would expand Cardinal Place by 24 apartments with a clubhouse.

She says the apartments will cost $6.2 million to build.
