VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - Police have arrested a 23-year-old man after they say he opened fire at offers who were trying to help a gunshot victim.
WVEC-TV (https://bit.ly/1R46isP ) reports officers responded to a shooting in Virginia Beach Friday night, finding two people hurt. As they were tending to a man with a gunshot wound, police say Christopher Cody Smith shot at officers and fled into a building. Police returned fire and wounded Smith on the lower part of his body. Smith surrendered when officers told him to drop his gun.
Police say the man Smith shot has life-threatening injuries. A woman also suffered minor injuries in a fight police say she had with Smith.
Smith is charged with strangulation and aggravated assault among other charges. It is unclear if he has a lawyer.
