ROOSEVELT, Utah (AP) - A man is dead after being shot by Roosevelt police officers who say he was wielding a handgun and acting erratically.

The Deseret News reports (https://bit.ly/1FKpJ5H ) that Roosevelt police and Duchesne County Sheriff’s deputies chased 36-year-old Kevin Vance Norton into a wooded area after receiving reports that he had a gun near Uintah Basin Medical Center Sunday afternoon.

Duchesne County Sheriff’s Lt. Jeremy Curry says a Roosevelt officer shot Norton after negotiations and non-lethal attempts to disarm him. He says Norton was immediately put into a patrol truck and taken to the emergency room.

Norton died about 30 minutes later.

Curry says the Utah Bureau of Investigations is investigating the shooting.

Roosevelt police officers use body cameras but authorities would not say Sunday if the shooting was recorded.
