RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Eighteen North Carolina properties ranging from an entire historic district to single homes, churches and businesses are now part of the National Register of Historic Places.
The listings include the Everetts Historic District in Martin County; and the Barker House in Vance County, a late 19th-century plantation home.
Other listings are in Lenoir, Caswell, Durham, Forsyth, Guilford, New Hanover, Mecklenburg, Union, Wake, Stanly, Ashe, Cleveland and Henderson counties.
Cultural Resources Secretary Susan Kluttz says North Carolina has about 75,000 properties on the National Register.
The listing is considered an honor and places no obligation or restrictions on a private owner who wants to use private resources to maintain or alter a property.
