SALEM, Ore. (AP) - The Oregon Senate is unanimously backing Gov. Kate Brown’s bill ordering a review of the state’s compliance with public records laws.

The approval on Monday sends the measure to the Oregon House.

The measure is the first of several bills that Brown requested in the wake of the influence-peddling controversy that led her predecessor, John Kitzhaber, to resign.

Brown’s bill would order the secretary of state’s office to conduct an audit of how state agencies retain and disclose public documents. The office would be required to submit a report on its findings by Nov. 20, potentially with recommended improvements the Legislature could make.
