BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - Police say a dispute between two families led to the fatal shooting of a 34-year-old Bridgeport man and the wounding of his 32-year-old brother on Sunday.

Thirty-nine-year-old Efrain Rivera appeared in court Monday. He is charged with killing Miguel Martinez and attempting to kill Jose Martinez when they came to his home shouting for him.

The Connecticut Post reports (0https://bit.ly/1EboQO1) Rivera’s lawyer John Gulash said “there are many issues in the case” and that the Rivera family had gotten a restraining order against the Martinez brothers. Rivera continues held on $1 million bail until his next hearing May 25.

Police say Rivera’s son and a Martinez daughter had broken off a relationship, and the brothers were seeking revenge. Police said Rivera told officers he fired when he thought he saw Miguel Martinez reach for a gun.
