PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A solar-powered home designed in part by students from the Rhode Island School of Design is now located at an art academy in France.
The Techstyle Haus now houses artists year-round at Domaine de Boisbuchet.
Rhode Island Public Radio reports (https://bit.ly/1R6aY1v ) the house uses as much energy as a blow dryer to keep it warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The home can also power other campus facilities when not in use.
Jonathan Knowles, an associate professor of architecture at RISD and one of the team’s faculty advisers, says the students will monitor its energy usage and use that information to improve its performance and make it less expensive.
The Techstyle Haus team finished in 14th place last year at an international solar decathlon.
