TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) - The wife of Los Angeles Kings defenseman Slava Voynov has been told she may be held in contempt of court for refusing to testify in a domestic violence case against the two-time Stanley Cup champ.

Voynov was charged last year with choking and hitting Marta Varlamova during an October argument. A police officer testified at a hearing that Voynov also shoved her into a TV, causing a gash that needed eight stitches.

A judge in Torrance warned Monday she could be held in contempt and fined for refusing to testify at pre-trial hearings or trial. He also said it might affect her immigration status.

However, the judge agreed to allow Varlamova to undergo domestic violence counseling before making a decision about testifying.

No timetable for the counseling was set.
