HAWTHORNE, Fla. (AP) - One person was seriously injured and a large black bear was killed after a car in north Florida struck the animal and then collided with another vehicle.

The crash on Sunday evening started when the 560-pound black bear was fatally struck while crossing a stretch of road near the town of Hawthorne. The driver of the car then collided with an SUV, sending both vehicles off the roadway.

The Gainesville Sun (https://bit.ly/1bsWqYL ) reports that 42-year-old Tammy Scott of Hawthorne, a passenger in the car, was injured seriously in the crash.

Florida wildlife officials were called in to remove the animal from the roadway.
