IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Iowa City police say they are investigating the shooting of a 10-year-old boy.

Officers say they were dispatched to Mercy Hospital on Sunday after receiving a report of a 10-year-old boy who had been shot in the lower leg. Authorities said in a news release that the injuries were not life threatening.

According to investigators, the shooting occurred at a residence. They recovered the firearm they believe was used in the shooting from the residence.

Iowa City Police spokesman Scott Gaarde said that charges could be filed depending on the outcome of the investigation.
