ATTALLA, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say three people were accused of attempted murder charges as a part of a plot to kill a man in Attalla.

The Gadsden Times (https://bit.ly/1EcTarw ) reports 38-year-old Gregory Tavares Crews, 28-year-old Joshua Otey and 27-year-old Sherese Jennine Kemp were arrested Saturday night.

Chief Investigator Doug Jordan says police received a call of a possible break-in at a church and then got another call of a man seriously hurt next to it.

An officer stopped Hardin, Crews and Kemp and found the two men covered in blood. Police say the suspects attacked the man with a claw hammer and screwdriver.

Detectives say the suspects knew the victim for more than a decade and Crews hired the other two, promising a substantial amount of money.

It is unclear if the suspects have lawyers.
