PORTAGE, Wis. (AP) - A former nurse accused of trying to kill the wife of a man with whom prosecutors say she’d had an affair is on trial in Columbia County Circuit Court.
Stephanie McMillen is charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide and stalking. Kimberly Tennier testified McMillen showed up at her house in September 2012 and asked for help finding a lost cat. McMillen was disguised in wig, bandanna and sunglasses.
A criminal complaint says McMillen tried to lure Tennier to a pond in a wooded area behind the house. Prosecutors say Tennier became suspicious, went back to the house, locked the door and called her husband.
The Portage Daily Register (https://bit.ly/1zKmxpV ) reports investigators believe McMillen intended to kill Tennier with morphine she had taken from her place of employment. Defense attorney Jay Englund says McMillen never crossed the line to attempted homicide.
