BURNELL, Fla. (AP) - Deputies have arrested a Florida man they say shot a family’s puppy to death with a shotgun after it ran into his yard.

WKMG-TV (https://bit.ly/1bu3OmG) reports deputies arrested Kevin McClenithan and charged him with animal cruelty after he shot his neighbors’ puppy Friday in Burnell. Bullet, a 10-month-old, purebred Labrador retriever, belonged to the Durrance family, who lived nearby.

The family’s two oldest children found the dog dead of a shotgun wound at McClenithan’s house after the puppy got loose in the neighborhood.

McClenithan told deputies the puppy was aggressive and tried to bite him. Deputies say the dog never bit McClenithan and he had locked the dog in a pen until the owner could be found before shooting the animal.
