NEW YORK (AP) - Habitat for Humanity is building a 60-unit apartment building in the Bronx.

The nonprofit group tells the Wall Street Journal (https://on.wsj.com/1KclQ8F ) it’ll be its biggest U.S. project in terms of units.

The group’s largest New York City development now is a 40-apartment building in Brooklyn.

The $18 million, 7-story building in the Williamsbridge section will have 2- and 3-bedroom co-op apartments.

The city Department of Housing Preservation and Development will provide $70,000 per unit.

Habitat NYC also has applied for a state subsidy of $40,000 per unit and requested funds from Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz and City Council member Andy King.

Construction is slated to begin by January. The building should open in 2017.

Buyers must put in 250 hours of volunteer work with Habitat per adult, per household.
