HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - Hattiesburg officials are rewriting its sewer ordinance to clarify rates and tighten collections.

But the new rates and regulations as presented during the city council’s work session Monday prompted questions as well as concerns whether the city is missing out on hundreds of thousands of dollars in payment for services rendered.

Councilman Henry Naylor said citizens are not respecting the city for the services it provides.

The new ordinance would cleaned-up what was on the books, and began the process of tightening sewer rate structures and bill collections.

The Hattiesburg American reports (https://hatne.ws/1E3QQnz) a request to approve the new ordinance likely will be tabled until more information is made available and more specific systems for closing loopholes and collecting money is tightened up.
