ATLANTA (AP) - An interim leader has been named to lead Fort Valley State University.

University System of Georgia officials say the school’s vice president for academic affairs Jessica Bailey has been named acting president of the university in middle Georgia.

Officials say Bailey will assume presidential responsibilities May 16 and will become interim president July 1.

University system officials say Bailey previously worked as the dean of the Sydney Lewis School of Business at Virginia Union University, and the dean of the school of business and economics at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina.

Forty Valley State University’s President Ivelaw Griffith is stepping down from the position June 30.
