NAPOLEONVILLE, La. (AP) - A state judge has refused to reduce the bail of a former Avoyelles Parish sheriff’s deputy accused of allowing an Assumption Parish prisoner to leave a jail transport van to buy drugs and the inmate didn’t return.

Judge Jessie LeBlanc said Michelle George failed to understand the risk the incident posed to the community and to prisoners and refused to reduce her bail from $250,000 to $20,000.

LeBlanc also said during a hearing Monday that she considered the seriousness of the allegations and George’s past brushes with the law when she made her decision.

George is accused of allowing prisoner Felicia Daigle to walk free in a known drug area of Paincourtville, purportedly to get illegal drugs.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1GXKFYk) George’s arraignment is set for June 1.
