SCHOHARIE, N.Y. (AP) - A jury says it’s deadlocked deciding the fate of a wealthy New York businessman with two previous convictions for killing his estranged wife in 2001.
The trial judge gave the jurors additional instructions Tuesday and told them to resume deliberations in the case against Calvin Harris. He’s charged with murder in the death of Michele Harris, who vanished after leaving her boyfriend’s apartment the night of Sept. 11, 2001.
Prosecutors say Calvin Harris killed his 35-year-old wife when she came home to the secluded Tioga County home they shared with their four young children. Her body was never found.
Defense lawyers argued that authorities overlooked other potential suspects Michele Harris associated with as her marriage broke up.
Two previous convictions against Harris in his home county had been thrown out. His third trial was held at a neutral site in Schoharie County has lasted three months.
