HAWTHORNE, Fla. (AP) - A large black bear is being blamed for a two-vehicle crash that seriously injured one person.

The crash happened Sunday night near Hawthorne in north Florida.

The Florida Highway Patrol says a Florida black bear crossed the road in front of a vehicle driven by 35-year-old Alberta Beckham of Hawthorne. Her vehicle hit the bear, killing it.

The Gainesville Sun (https://bit.ly/1Id2fIn ) reports Beckham’s vehicle then veered into the path of an SUV driven by 45-year-old Michael F. Scott of Hawthorne. The vehicles headed off the road and onto the shoulder.

Troopers say 42-year-old Tammy Scott was seriously injured in the crash.

Officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission removed the bear, which weighed about 560 pounds.
