PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. (AP) - A southern New Jersey man has been indicted on two counts of attempted murder stemming from the shooting of a couple outside a convenience store last year.
State authorities say 25-year-old Andre Graves-Byrd, of Pleasantville, also faces two weapons charges and a hindering apprehension charge in the indictment handed up an Atlantic County grand jury. It was made public Tuesday.
Authorities say the shooting, which occurred last October in Pleasantville, stemmed from an ongoing feud between Graves-Byrd and the male victim. They say the feud began because Graves-Byrd and the female victim were longtime friends, which angered the male victim.
The two men encountered each other in the store, and a short time later Graves-Byrd allegedly approached the couple and shot them with a .45-caliber handgun.
The man was hit twice in the abdomen and once in the right arm, and also had a graze wound to his inner thigh, while the woman was shot in the lower back. Both victims were hospitalized but have since recovered from their wounds.
Graves-Byrd allegedly fled the scene in a car driven by a male friend and allegedly threw the handgun used in the shooting into the water under the Route 30/Absecon Boulevard drawbridge in Atlantic City. Police searched the water under the bridge but the gun was not found.
Graves-Byrd remains jailed on $100,000 cash bail. He could face more than 60 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
