MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - Several dozen people marched in Martinsburg on Tuesday to protest the fatal shooting of a Virginia man by police in 2013.
The Journal (https://bit.ly/1FNeObp ) reports that the protesters called for accountability for the officers’ actions.
An autopsy found that 50-year-old Wayne Arnold Jones of Stephens City, Virginia, was shot 23 times.
Police have said Jones, who was black, drew a knife after officers stopped him as he was walking on a street on March 13, 2013. One officer was stabbed during a scuffle.
A Berkeley County grand jury declined in October 2013 to indict the five officers involved in the shooting. A year later, a federal judge dismissed a $200 million lawsuit filed by Jones’ family against the officers and the city. The family is appealing the judge’s order.
