CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Several Mecklenburg County jail inmates were hurt when a sheriff’s van wrecked on Interstate 77 in Charlotte.

Sheriff’s spokesman Rob Brisley told local media outlets that the van collided with another vehicle around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

None of the injuries appeared to be serious. The inmates were taken to a hospital to be treated. Brisley said they would be returned to the jail in a sheriff’s van.

The sheriff’s office secured the wreck location.

Brisley said for security reasons he could not say how many inmates were in the van. He said no sheriff’s personnel were hurt in the wreck.
