NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Officials have approved plans to install a park along the riverfront outside the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center to connect the New Orleans’ Warehouse District to the French Quarter.

The New Orleans Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1EUqkRt) last week the Convention Center’s governing board approved a resolution to begin constructing the $65 million, pedestrian-friendly linear park. The narrow, mile-long park would run along Convention Center Boulevard from Poydras to Henderson streets.

To be funded by the center, the project must still receive approval from various city departments.

The park is part of the $150 million Convention Center District Development Project, which includes the development of 47 acres of vacant land at the upriver end of the meeting hall.

Officials hope the project will encourage private developers to expand in the area.
